Dark Search Engine

I typed the title words, "Dark Search Engine" up in Google because I wanted a layout that wasn't based on white but that was the closest I could think of and it wasn't even the name of a site or anything. I originally searched it up because I wanted to use a bookmarklet that changes a site background to white. I wanted to test it out. But all the sites I could think of where pretty much all white. I don't know if that's just the sites that I visit or that's the majority of internet sites these days.
But then the search brought me up to this article, "Shodan: The scariest search engine on the Internet" by CNN which I consider a pretty big news source in the USA. Of course I was interested so I read the whole article. It's pretty interesting. I'm surprised there wasn't more publicity about it. I feel like this is way more important than some of the more minor things that happen in the Tech industry like the the iphone 5C being released. I feel like a search engine like Shodan's existence is cause for as much alarm as the US government secretly working with the Tech companies because this search engine shows that even everyday citizens with access to this level of technology can do lookups on other everyday citizens or even cities without their knowledge. However, I also think this kind of security lapse in many devices is similar to the location services on smartphones. They can be scary or super useful depending on the people and the perspective they take on for the day or even for the moment. It's up to the individual what to make of the technology.
